Planning a garden redesign, a new terrace or patio for summer? If you decide not to do it yourself you will need to consider who to choose. If you have a very clear plan of what you want you can engage landscape contractors to put your plan into reality. If you need some guidance then you may need to choose a designer to help. Some landscape contractors can offer advice and guidance without the designer's price tag. But you will get what you pay for. So you must also have a clear idea about your maximum budget.
A designer will use tested methods to get you and them to understand what you need your garden to do, what features you must have, would like to have, who will use it and how etc. Then they will draw up an outline brief for your agreement.
Landscapers will get your ideas onto paper for approval and offer sample materials for hard landscaping. They may have some design skills but think of them more like builders than architects. If you know what you want and it's straightforward, then they will bring your project in to an agreed budget.
Remember, the clearer your ideas the more likely you will get what you want.
